This position will report to the Director of Science Computing with matrix reporting and primary responsibility to Genzyme’s Small Molecule R&D organization. This organization is an integral and expanding part of Genzyme’s current and future R&D product strategy with over 250 scientists involved in small molecule discovery and development.
Job Responsibilities: We seek a highly experienced and skilled informatics scientist to be responsible for identifying, implementing, and managing integrated informatics solutions to support all aspects of drug discovery and early development. This may include data capture, integration, analysis, modeling, and visualization. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team environment and will be expected to provide informatics leadership to the Small Molecule R&D organization. This individual will be expected to establish close partnerships with drug discovery scientists from multiple disciplines to translate business needs into state-of-the-art informatics solutions to store, access, and integrate discovery and development data. The incumbent will be expected to provide a long-term vision for this function, and to champion solutions to facilitate the success of Genzyme’s Small Molecule R&D.
Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in computer science, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 10 year’s informatics experience in the bio/pharmaceutical industry. 6 years of experience with MDL tools (Isentris and Assay Explorer) or equivalent required. Experience with C#.NET, VB 6, Java, PL-SQL, and Oracle are required, as is experience in database design and software systems architecture and bioinformatics and cheminformatics tools for data integration, mining, and visualization.
Preferred Qualifications: A good understanding of drug discovery and development is required. Familiarity with Pipeline Pilot and Spotfire DecisionSite are strongly preferred. Excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential.
